Philips Respironics CPAP

Philips Respironics CPAP Defective Medical Device Attorneys Representing Injured People in Michigan

On June 14, 2021, Philips Respironics announced recalls of certain CPAP, Bi-Level PAP, and mechanical ventilator machines. The devices in question were made before April 26, 2021. The machines treat conditions like sleep apnea and help with breathing by opening the airways. Experts have found that the polyester (PE-PUR) based foam meant to reduce noise and vibration can break down and release chemicals into the airways of the user. Small, black particles inside the air tubes of the machine indicate that breakdown has occurred.

Many users have reported this black debris inside their tubes. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is looking into similar reports from 2009-2021. Symptoms of exposure include headaches, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, chest pressure, and symptoms like a sinus infection. Long-term exposure to these particles can lead to cancer and organ failure, especially in the lungs, kidneys, and liver. The recall notice from Philips lists the models affected. Recent investigations show that Philips knew about the health risks years ago but failed to advise their patients of the risks until April 2021 and did not recall the machines until June.

According to a Food and Drug Administration Release, the recalled models include the following Philips devices: A-Series BiPAP A30, A-Series BiPAP A40 (ventilator), A-Series BiPAP Hybrid A30, A-Series BiPAP V30 Auto (ventilator), C-Series ASV (ventilator), C-Series S/T and AVAPS, DreamStation, DreamStation ASV, DreamStation Go, DreamStation ST, AVAPS, Dorma 400, Dorma 500, E30, Garbin Plus, Aeris, LifeVent (ventilator), OmniLab Advanced+. REMstar SE Auto, SystemOne ASV4, SystemOne (Q-Series), Trilogy 100 (ventilator), and the Trilogy 200 (ventilator).
